Product Manager Job Description
Position Summary
The Product Manager is responsible for leading product planning and deliverables execution within the entire product portfolio. The primary focus will be on identifying market opportunities (regionally and by market segment) and leading the identification and development of new products and platforms to profitably address and grow these opportunities. This also includes gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, defining the product vision and strategy, and managing the product throughout the OE and Aftermarket product lifecycle. The Product Manager is the bridge between Product Engineering and Sales and is required to ensure delivery of winning products that fulfill cost, revenue, profit, ROIC, timing, and customer satisfaction objectives. The Product Manager's job also includes ensuring that the product and marketing efforts support the company's overall strategy and goals.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The Product Manager is expected to:
- Understand current market demands and conditions along with the primary drivers, barriers, and lifecycles by market segment.
- Understand market and customer fundamentals including business models, margin requirements, price points, and Sales programs..
- Develop the product line (portfolio) strategy and product roadmap – overall and by market segment.
- Define product specifications and preliminary target pricing for new products and product line changes.
- Develop product milestone charts from concept through manufacturing launch. Lead meetings as necessary to review deliverable status. Implement corrective action plans to meet timing deadlines.
- Develop the core positioning and unique selling features for each product line within the portfolio.
- Lead and coordinate all aspects relating to New Product Development – concept development, product definition, team and consumer research, product design, product development, product specification, product testing and certification, and market launch planning.
- Be an expert with respect to the competition and their respective product offerings by segment. Conduct benchmarking and lead competitive intelligence briefings to the organization.
- Work with the Sales Department to set pricing by Channel to meet revenue and profitability goals.
- Provide long-term demand forecasts by product line to Manufacturing and Purchasing.
- Support Sales led initiatives that profitably drive RC revenue and market share gains specifically targeting new market segments – Tri, Mountain, and International.
- Work with the “C” level to monitor product line profit & loss (P&L). Implement initiatives to address issues and/or opportunities to improve profitability.
- Develop cross-functional relationships with Sales, Marketing, Purchasing, Finance, Manufacturing, Product Engineering, and Customer Service/Warranty.
- Interact with customers, distributors, retailers, and reps regarding product satisfaction, trends, and future product requirements.
- Participate in Industry specific trade shows and other events.
- Develop a Product Plan and Strategy standard operating procedure. Own the Process. Lead and conduct meetings at defined intervals to ensure input/output can be integrated into the overall company strategy.
- Work within and Manage Product Line and Department budgets.
- Brief and train the sales team at quarterly sales meetings.
- Act as a leader within the company.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years experience as a Product Manager or Product Marketing Manager in the bicycle industry – preferably at an OEM or at an established component supplier.
- Minimum 10 years experience in various functional roles within one or more of the following bicycle industry segments – Road, Tri, Mountain, other.
- Understanding and knowledge of the global bicycle industry, channels, and culture.
- Proven “Voice of the Market” and “Voice of the Customer” experience in the development of product roadmaps and launch of new products.
- Possess a deep understanding of the Product Development process including stage gate release.
- Must be an entrepreneurial thinker and self-starter who can build new product lines in addition to optimizing existing ones.
- Can persevere through hurdles and roadblocks, ask for help when required, but independently make fast progress toward doubling revenue.
- Previous global business experience including managing geographically dispersed product lines across multiple business segments.
- Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority.
- Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Solid decision making and problem solving skills.
- Proven ability to think analytically, strategically, creatively, and practically.
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills along with proficiency with MS Office Suite.
- Bachelor's degree (MBA preferred); strong financial acumen.
- Must be able to travel 10-25% of the time.
- Follow all established ISO and MQC procedures and participate in continuous improvement.
- Performs related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates. Complies with all MQC policies.
Level & Compensation
Level: Manager
Compensation: $70K-$85K base salary + bonus and other incentives

The Product Manager will report to the “C” level of the organization.
